What you get

YouTube becomes the ultimate language learning tool.

Part 01 · YouTube Extension

Learning as you watch

Pause anywhere on YouTube for AI explanations, not just translations.

AI translation + word breakdown

Per-word meanings with language-specific reading aids — like furigana and romaji for Japanese. Pause and it's there.

Grammar notes & patterns in use

Click Details for grammar notes and the sentence patterns in use. Deepen your understanding by learning the patterns and how they're used.

AI fixes subtitle mistakes* (JA→EN only)

Auto-generated subtitles often mishear kanji homophones or garble words. LangClip corrects them before explaining the sentence.

Part 02 · Web app

Building memory

Every phrase you pause on is automatically saved, ready to review anytime.

History — everything you paused

Every phrase you paused on in YouTube is auto-saved and stays there to revisit anytime, even if you never turned it into a flashcard.

Flashcards — what you want to remember

Every phrase you save on YouTube becomes a flashcard, ready for spaced-repetition review anytime.

Manual flashcards

Add words and phrases you've learned anywhere — books, conversations, or beyond YouTube — straight to your flashcards.

* Subtitle correction uses the video title and surrounding context to fix likely mistranscriptions. It improves accuracy but does not guarantee corrections match what the speaker actually said — treat them as best-guess AI output, not a source of record.

FAQ

What is LangClip?

A smarter way to learn languages from YouTube. LangClip is a browser extension that helps you understand real-world language while you watch YouTube videos. Pause on any unfamiliar phrase to get instant translations and AI-powered explanations of vocabulary, grammar, and usage. Save useful expressions as flashcards, then review them anytime in the web app with spaced repetition.

Do I need to sign up to start?

Yes — a free LangClip account is required. Install the extension, sign up when prompted to connect it to your account and pick your language pair, then pause a YouTube video to start learning. 50 Learning credits, no card required.

How do I use this?

1) Install the extension and sign in from the popup — this connects the extension to your LangClip account and language pair. 2) Open a YouTube video in the language you want to learn, with subtitles on (CC). 3) Pause on a sentence you want to understand; LangClip shows the translation and word breakdown in an overlay. 4) Click "Details" for grammar notes and patterns in use. Save any word or phrase as a flashcard at any time and review it later in the web app from any device.

Do I need a credit card to start?

No. The trial gives you 50 Learning credits with no card required.

What happens after the trial ends?

You can still review your history and flashcards, and add manual flashcards, indefinitely. New AI analyses on YouTube require Plus.

Which languages are supported?

JA ↔ EN today. Korean (KO → EN and KO → JP) is in active development and ships next. More pairs follow based on demand.

Which browsers work?

Desktop Chrome and Brave today (any Chromium browser that installs from the Chrome Web Store). A native Microsoft Edge listing is coming soon. Mobile Chrome and Safari can’t run extensions — but the web app works on any device once you’ve connected from desktop.

What if YouTube has no subtitles?

LangClip reads YouTube’s subtitle track. No subtitles, no analysis — turn on CC first.

Nothing is displaying in the YouTube video

First, make sure subtitles (CC) are turned on for the video and reload the tab. Then click the LangClip toolbar icon: if it shows "Not connected," click "Sign in to LangClip" to reconnect via the /connect-extension page. If the popup shows you're connected but nothing appears, open /dashboard/settings → Extension tokens to confirm a token is active — revoke stale ones and reconnect from the popup if needed.

Can I export to Anki?

Yes — Plus users can export flashcards as CSV in Anki tag format. Take your deck with you any time.
